  43. .SH DESCRIPTION
  44. .I ppm2tiff
  45. converts a file in the
  46. .SM PPM, PGM
  47. and
  48. .SM PBM
  49. image formats to
  50. .SM TIFF.
  51. By default, the
  52. .SM TIFF
  53. image is created with data samples packed (\c
  54. .IR PlanarConfiguration =1),
  55. compressed with the Packbits algorithm (\c
  56. .IR Compression =32773),
  57. and with each strip no more than 8 kilobytes. These characteristics can be
  58. overridden, or explicitly specified with the options described below
  59. .PP
  60. If the
  61. .SM PPM
  62. file contains greyscale data, then the
  63. .I PhotometricInterpretation
  64. tag is set to 1 (min-is-black), otherwise it is set to 2 (RGB).
  65. .PP
  66. If no
  67. .SM PPM
  68. file is specified on the command line,
  69. .I ppm2tiff
  70. will read from the standard input.
  71. .SH OPTIONS
  72. .TP
  73. .B \-c
  74. Specify a compression scheme to use when writing image data:
  75. .B none
  76. for no compression,
  77. .B packbits
  78. for PackBits compression (will be used by default),
  79. .B lzw
  80. for Lempel-Ziv & Welch compression,
  81. .B jpeg
  82. for baseline JPEG compression,
  83. .B zip
  84. for Deflate compression,
  85. .B g3
  86. for CCITT Group 3 (T.4) compression,
  87. and
  88. .B g4
  89. for CCITT Group 4 (T.6) compression.
  90. .TP
  91. .B \-r
  92. Write data with a specified number of rows per strip; by default the number of
  93. rows/strip is selected so that each strip is approximately 8 kilobytes.
  94. .TP
  95. .B \-R
  96. Mark the resultant image to have the specified X and Y resolution (in
  97. dots/inch).
