  27. .SH NAME
  28. ras2tiff \- create a
  29. .SM TIFF
  30. file from a Sun rasterfile

  33. [

  38. .SH DESCRIPTION
  39. .I ras2tiff
  40. converts a file in the Sun rasterfile format to
  41. .SM TIFF.
  42. By default, the
  43. .SM TIFF
  44. image is created with data samples packed (\c
  45. .IR PlanarConfiguration =1),
  46. compressed with the Lempel-Ziv & Welch algorithm (\c
  47. .IR Compression =5),
  48. and with each strip no more than 8 kilobytes.
  49. These characteristics can overridden, or explicitly specified
  50. with the options described below.
  51. .PP
  52. Any colormap information in the rasterfile is carried over to the
  53. .SM TIFF
  54. file by including a
  55. .I Colormap
  56. tag in the output file.
  57. If the rasterfile has a colormap, the
  58. .I PhotometricInterpretation
  59. tag is set to 3 (palette);
  60. otherwise it is set to 2 (RGB) if the depth
  61. is 24 or 1 (min-is-black) if the depth is not 24.
  62. .SH OPTIONS
  63. .TP
  64. .B \-c
  65. Specify a compression scheme to use when writing image data:
  66. .B "\-c none"
  67. for no compression,
  68. .B "\-c packbits"
  69. for the PackBits compression algorithm,
  70. .B "\-c jpeg"
  71. for the baseline JPEG compression algorithm,
  72. .B "\-c zip
  73. for the Deflate compression algorithm,
  74. and
  75. .B "\-c lzw"
  76. for Lempel-Ziv & Welch (the default).
  77. .TP
  78. .B \-r
  79. Write data with a specified number of rows per strip;
  80. by default the number of rows/strip is selected so that each strip
  81. is approximately 8 kilobytes.
  82. .SH BUGS
  83. Does not handle all possible rasterfiles.
  84. In particular,
  85. .I ras2tiff
  86. does not handle run-length encoded images.
